This is a suggested sequence, year by year, to complete the requirements of Leadership Walton. Students are not required to complete the components in the year and order listed.

Four Year Plan

FRESHMAN YEAR:

  • Leadership Walton Orientation
Academic/Leadership Requirements:
  • Complete WCOB 1111, Freshmen/Transfer Business Connections
  • Complete COMM 1313, Fundamentals of Communications
  • Create a four year academic plan (completed in FBC)
  • Attend a minimum of two WCOB or Career Center approved UA lectures (1 & 2 of 8)
  • One Misc. Component (see full list below and to the right)
Career Path Management Requirements:
  • Type Focus (online assessment)
  • Optimal Resume: Create a resume online
  • Resume Review (1of 3): Bring your resume by the Career Center or email it to sayell@walton.uark.edu to have it revised

 

SOPHOMORE YEAR:

Academic/Leadership Requirements:

  • Attend a minimum of two WCOB or Career Center approved UA lectures (3 & 4 of 8)
  • Participate in one approved individual community service volunteer project (1 of 2)
  • Participate in one approved group community service volunteer project (1 of 2)
  • One Misc. Component (see full list below and to the right)

Career Path Management Requirements:

  • Experience - Complete your profile and upload your resume to the online database
  • Attend a Career Fair
  • Interview with a Company (1 of 3)
  • Dressed for Success - Present Your Best Self workshop

 

JUNIOR YEAR:

Academic/Leadership Requirements:

  • Complete a Business minor and/or one of the following courses by end of senior year:
    FINN 4143, Portfolio Management I or FINN 4163, Fixed Income Securities I
    MGMT 4243, Ethics and Corporate Responsibility
    MGMT 4253, Leadership
    WCOB 3033, The African American Experience in Business
    MGMT 4993, Entrepreneurship Practicum (SAKE)
    WCOB 410V, Service Learning Practicum (SIFE)
  • Attend a minimum of two WCOB or Career Center approved UA lectures (5 & 6 of 8)
  • Participate in one approved individual community service volunteer project (2 of 2)
  • One Misc. Component (see full list below and to the right)

Career Path Management Requirements:

  • Perfect Interview
  • Mock Interview: Contact the Career Center at 575-6100 to set up a mock interview. 
  • One semester of relevant work experience and/or an internship/co-op (optional Jr./Sr. Credit available through Co-op: WCOB 310V)
  • Resume Review (2 of 3): Bring your resume by the Career Center or email it to sayell@walton.uark.edu to have it revised 
  • Attend a Career Fair (2 of 3)
  • Interview with a Company (2 of 3)
  • Social and Dining Etiquette Training

 

SENIOR YEAR:

Academic/Leadership Requirements:

  • Attend a minimum of two WCOB or Career Center approved UA lectures (7 & 8 of 8)
  • Participate in one, approved group community service volunteer project (2 of 2)
  • One Misc. Component (see full list to the right)

Career Path Management Requirements:

  • Attend a Career Fair (3 of 3)
  • Salary Negotiation (in Blackboard)
  • Resume Review (3 of 3): Bring your resume by the Career Center or email it to sayell@walton.uark.edu to have it revised 
  • Interview with a Company (3 of 3)
  • Diversity in the Workplace (workshop or online training)
  • Senior Survey - Complete this online survey your last semester

All students must complete at least four of the following before graduation:

  • Attend Three Leadership Workshop Series Presentations
  • Be a Member of the Four Year Walton College Honors Program
  • Complete a Type Focus Assessment with a Career Advisor
  • Complete a Graduate School Admission Packet
  • Complete the Job Search Strategy Plan in Blackboard
  • Complete one Group Community Service Project
  • Complete one Individual Community Service Project
  • Participate in the Mentor/Job Shadow Program
  • Participate in an Approved Study Abroad Program
  • Participate in Students Day of Caring or Make a Difference Day
  • Participate in the U of A Emerging Leaders Program
  • Record a Podcast/CareerCast
  • Serve as a WCOB Student Ambassador
  • Serve as an Officer for One Year in a Student Organization
  • Serve on the Walton College Dean's Student Advisory Board
  • Serve One Year as an Active Member of a Business Student Organization
