As part of the Leadership Walton program you must complete at least two individual and two group community service projects before graduation. Participating in a long term service project, such as Big Brothers Big Sisters, will possibly fulfill two credits of community service. The following is a partial list of possible volunteer opportunities. If you complete a community service project on your own or through your church, sorority, fraternity or other organization, it may also count toward your volunteer requirements. Projects must be approved by the Leadership Walton Coordinator.
As part of Big Brothers Big Sisters you will meet with a child about once a week for about one hour at his/her school or a community facility and eat lunch, play games, help with homework, read a book or go to recess.
Bikes, Blues & BBQ is the fastest growing motorcycle rally in the world and it takes place in Fayetteville. Bikes, Blues & BBQ, Inc. is a non-profit organization that donates proceeds to area charities. There are many volunteer opportunities available for the event. 2009 DATES: SEPTEMBER 23-26.

Spring International Language Center is seeking conversation partners for the fall semester. The conversation partner program links international students with American peers, often university students and staff. Participants are asked to spend one hour per week with their student. Faith in Action is a volunteer based organization providing homebound seniors with free non-medical services to promote their independence, dignity and quality of life. Volunteer opportunities include transportation, shopping, friendly visits, telephone reassurance, chore assistance, yard-work and minor home repairs for homebound seniors.
Fayetteville Animal Shelter is always in need of volunteers. Volunteer opportunities exist in adoption support, cans for critters program, lost and found, shelter housekeeping, shelter animal care, grooming, socializing, landscaping, and grounds maintenance. Phone: (479) 444-3456
The Fayetteville Parks and Recreation Division is always looking for volunteers to staff events and help with different programs, special events and projects.
Opportunities with the library include: assisting in genealogy or the computer center, repairing books and other materials, delivering books to the homebound, data input and word processing, answering telephones/making calls, filing and photocopying, shelving and processing books, helping set up and monitor events and reading books to the homebound.
For Pet's Sake is a tax-exempt organization promoting animal welfare located in Springdale, Arkansas.
For Pets Sake is actively recruiting volunteers. The following volunteer positions are available: office support, public relations, event support and fundraising, etc.
Friday Night Live (FNL) is an initiative by the Division of Student Affairs to create fun and entertaining late night programs for university students. Each FNL provides a variety of activities, games, contests, and memorabilia. Their mission is to provide educational, entertaining, cultural and creative late night programming to enhance the Arkansas Experience by building and uplifting the campus community. Phone: 575-6659
Habitat for Humanity builds houses in partnership with low income families. You can work at the site Saturdays 8 am - 4pm. Habitat also welcomes office help, and people to provide lunches at the work site, staff for information booths, and management team members.

Humane Society of the Ozarks is always in need of volunteers. Volunteers can participate in programs such as Spring Fest on Dickson Street, Autumn Fest on the Fayetteville Square, Dogwood Walk, and Black Cat and Broomstick Ball. The Joe Martin Stage Race, started in 1978, is one of the top National Race Calendar (NRC) and amateur events in the nation. Volunteers are needed to assist with registration, feed zones, corner marshals, logistics, host families, assistant judges, souvenir booth, race marshals, team liaisons, media hosts, etc. (Typically takes place in the spring semester.)
The Jones Center for Families is a nonprofit organization led by a community board. Their mission is "to serve families, strengthen community and glorify God." They have many opportunities for volunteers, including helping in the recreation areas, computer center, front door greeter, reception assistant, and gift ship.
The mission of Northwest Arkansas Children's Shelter is to provide a safe and nurturing atmosphere of hope for children in crisis and to sponsor programs that encourage individual growth and development. Volunteers are needed to provide childcare and to assist in educational and special programs.

‘Susan G. Komen for the Cure’ is the largest source of nonprofit funds dedicated to the fight against breast cancer in the world. Events like the Komen Race for the Cure help fund the fight against breast cancer. (Typically takes place in the spring semester.)
RTNWA is a non-profit organization that does repairs and modifications to homes that are owned by low-income homeowners who are elderly, disabled or families with children. Phone: (479) 725-2488
The American Red Cross is a humanitarian organization, led by volunteers, that provides relief to victims of disaster and helps people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies. Needs include people to answer phones, enter data into spreadsheets, and work on scheduling volunteers for other events.
Rape Education Services by Peers Encouraging Conscious Thought is a group of men and women who provide educational presentations and interactive events on sexual assault issues through peer health education. They are students helping other students to understand the issues of sexual assault, relationship violence, and its risk reduction and prevention. These programs are developed specifically for the target audience-college students and perspective college students.
ROCK (Razorback Outreach for Community & Knowledge) Camp is the University of Arkansas's premier extended orientation program for first year students. ROCK Camp is designed to aid incoming students in their transition from high school to college by encouraging a diverse social network of classmates, upperclassmen, faculty & staff members and encouraging their bond to the University of Arkansas through the introduction of campus culture and traditions.
