Awards & Recognition

Christy Dean and Suson Wheeler

Christy Dean, Major Contribution Award

We would like to recognize Christy T. Dean, ISYS Department Administrative Assistant II, as the recent recipient of the Major Contribution Staff Award 2009.

Christy is involved in numerous projects at both the departmental and college levels as well as serving on many committees that are outside of her actual job description.

Within these projects and committees, she has taken on several leadership roles and is a good example of how leadership is a position, not a title. Christy’s role as leader of the departmental web team is putting a new face on the ISYS department’s website.

Her peers made the following comments on her recent Peer Review:

“Christy should be more visible in College events and committees. Her great ideas could really go far to improve our working environment.”

“She is someone who is an incredible asset to the Walton College and is a real leader.”

“She’s the best admin asst I have seen anywhere in 20 years.”

Suson Wheeler, 2009 Green Award

Suson Wheeler, Secretary II in the Information Systems (ISYS) Department recently received the 2009 Green Award.

She demonstrated a commitment to promoting sustainability in the ISYS office and at the Walton College level.

Suson developed procedures to reduce the amount of paper being used by faculty and staff in the ISYS department. For example, she set up duplex (2-sided) default printing throughout the department and began collecting paper that has been used on one side and encouraged people to print on the opposite side.

One of her goals is to significantly reduce the amount of paper being used at the department and college level. She also encourages everyone to recycle as much as possible.

Suson is a leader of the Green Meetings team, and has been working with several other staff members to set sustainable goals and work toward reducing waste and encouraging people to utilize technology.

All of her efforts have led to cost savings and environmentally friendly practices.

Sandeep Goyal, 2008 Graduate Assistant Teaching Award

ISYS PhD. student, Sandeep Goyal, received the Graduate Assistant Teaching Award for 2008.

He has been very consistent since the fall 2006 semester as a graduate teaching assistant. He often goes above and beyond the call of duty to help students with their academic careers; and in return he receives a lot of positive feedback from students such as:

"This is honestly the best teacher I have ever had. He really cares about his students and has the most effective teaching style I’ve ever encountered. I wish he taught all WCOB classes. FANTASTIC.”

“Great teacher. By far the best I’ve had since I’ve been here. Incredibly helpful and really cares about his students and is focused on his students doing well.”

“Great teacher! I have recommended his class to all of my friends! He makes an otherwise boring class fun.”
